Leadership Adventure Leader Position
Leadership Adventure Leaders will lead those ARCC adventures which include backpacking as a main component. While in the backcountry, Leadership Adventure Leaders focus on teaching wilderness travel and minimum impact skills, overseeing backcountry planning, ensuring safe and sound backcountry practices, supervising backcountry cooking, and facilitating activities and initiatives to improve teamwork and group dynamics. Leadership Adventure Leaders will also oversee all portions of the trip which do not take place in the backcountry, including all outfitted activities.
Requirements
- Ability to carry a 55 pound backpack through rugged terrain for up to 12 hours per day.
- Competence with backcountry map and compass techniques.
- Familiarity with Leave No Trace techniques for backcountry travel.
- Ability to plan the logistics (food, fuel, etc.) for 4-10 day backcountry trips for groups of 15 people.
- Backcountry cooking skills.
- Solid expedition behavior.
- Ability to oversee (but not guide) outfitted activities such as rafting, rock climbing, sea kayaking, mountaineering, etc. Skill in these areas is helpful, but not required.
- International travel experience (Southern Europe).
Trips led by Leadership Adventure Leaders
Alaska Expedition, British Columbia, California, Colorado/Utah, Hawaii, Rocky Mountain, Whistler and Southern Europe.
