A Day in the Life of a Monk

Happy 4th of July! We are in Thailand! Today we traveled from Bangkok to the monastery where we toured the monks’ 30-acre farm, spoke with the monks and celebrated with Thai children after dinner. We learned a ton from the monks including: they follow over 200 precepts, are very strict vegetarians and maintain a very self-sufficient way of life by producing almost everything they need right in their village. We learned that their “boon” is the most important to them, which means that they love to give.

That night the cutest Thai children ever performed dances such as “Hard Work Never Killed Anyone”, and taught us a few Thai games. We in turn sang songs, played Red Rover and practiced our newly-learned Thai for our spectators. They seemed to get a kick out of it. We then separated into our respective boys’ and girls’ rooms and had a wonderful night’s sleep. The people here are extremely friendly and super hospitable. What an amazing place this world is!
