We have been very busy over the past few days! When we last checked in, we had just visited the small town of La Piedra for our first service project. Since then, we’ve explored historic Santo Domingo on a walking tour led by Conor and Shannon and visited the oldest cathedral in the New World! Also, on Wednesday, we whitewater rafted the Rio Yaque Del Norte in Jarabacoa. There were so many splashes exchanged between the four rafts on the river (and some swimming!).
We then had lunch and hung out by the pool for the afternoon at Rancho Baiguate, the rafting headquarters. They also had a butterfly garden! The following morning we loaded up the bus with our always-so-helpful bus driver Alex and headed to the beach side town of Cabarete. Stopping at Gorditos and getting burritos for lunch, we finally arrived at our hotel on Kite Beach, where people were kite surfing 24/7, as you can see in the picture below. Today we had an orientation with the DREAM project and began our service. We will be painting a mural at a local school in a community called La Union, and also cleaning up the classrooms there. We also got to have a little free time on the beach today just playing in the beautiful Caribbean Sea!beautiful Caribbean Sea!
