SF Exploration and Service

Between San Francisco exploration, incredibly rewarding service projects, and even a haunted house tour, the California Service Program has not disappointed so far! On our long road trip to Lake Tahoe we have time to ponder everything we have done and reflect on the amazing service we have already completed. From volunteering at the Glide and St. Anthony foundations to planning and executing our own service project of handing out bagged lunches in the Tenderloin, San Francisco’s most poverty stricken area, we have had experiences that we will never be able to forget.

Glide and St. Anthony’s taught us giving back is more than just proving food or clothes to the needy, but immersing ourselves in their culture and to always treat every person with the respect they deserve. While at times we may have felt uncomfortable walking through the streets filled with many homeless people, as we began to hand food out to them and talk to them one on one, we learned they are just like everyone else and our differences began to disappear. San Francisco was a great place to walk and drive around, and we definitely can not forget the food: Ghirardelli Square has the best ice cream in the world we found out! We drove through China Town, shopped around Fisherman’s Wharf, and relaxed in the famous Dolores park, and began to feel like regular San Franciscans. We are all so excited about what the coming days have in store so keep posted for more updates!!
