It is day eight and we can’t believe it has already been a week! Our trip is flying by and we are trying to take in every moment. We arrived in Tahoe a couple of days ago. It was packed with people but the crowd has now died down. On our free day we braved Mt. Judah which intersects with some of the Pacific Crest Trail. We got to the top of the windy ridge, bathed in our success and then hiked to a wooded nook to have our lunch. We passed and let pass several hikers along the way, many were curious about who we were.
After we got back to the car we headed off to spend time in Truckee before making our shish kabob dinner. Yesterday we woke up early to start our trail work on the Donner Rim Trail. We hiked up switch backs overlooking Donner Lake and some snow patched mountains. Some of us stained a few bridges, while others cleared branches from the trail. Either way we shared stories and laughs. The occasional mountain biker and ultra-runner would cruise by and thank us for our work. To treat ourselves after a great morning we went to a thrift store in Tahoe city and then went swimming. Upon arriving back at camp we ran into the other California service group. It was nice to see some familiar faces. While sitting around the camp fire, debriefing our day, we all agreed that we are excited for the adventures that we will encounter in our upcoming week and the laughs that we will share.
The A-team motto: If you’re not laughing, you’re not living!
